E-UNITS

E-units are self contained digital instructional units that cover special science topics in various courses. Some E-units are unique to a single course while others will be used for multiple subjects. E-units contain text, imagery, and usually any associated assignment files. All content has been created by Dr. Schmidt and serves as the "textbook" for the specific topic.

Other than the seasons, El Niño is often considered to be the greatest short-term climate changing phenomenon on Earth. This E-unit explores the origins of El Niño, its discovery as a global force of and its impact on the planet.

MARINE CHEMISTRY

Marine Chemistry takes a close-up look at the physical and chemical properties of the world's oceans with special focus on such properties as temperature, salinity, and dissolved minerals.

Space Satellite

MARINE GEOLOGY AND BATHYMETRY

Marine Geology deals with the ocean floor, its geologic composition and features through the use of the field of bathymetry. It includes labs on marine floor features and marine navigation.

INTRODUCTION TO ATMOSPHERIC VARIABLES

Introduction to Atmospheric Variables specializes in preparing students to become competent in reading weather maps, METARs and meteograms using extensive NWS resources.

This E-unit focuses on the subject of stability and how it forms the backbone of severe weather forecasting. It includes a close-up look at skew-T diagrams and associated severe weather forecasting tools.

Numerical modeling lies at the core of all modern weather forecasting. This E-unit takes an in-depth look at these computer models, how they are constructed and used to derive weather forecasts.

Wild Foods is a Survival Science E-unit focused on edible wild plants and animals found in the Mid-Atlantic states of the U.S. and is part of the Survival Science and Fitness curriculum.

The Stargazing E-unit focuses on the challenges and enjoyment of making night sky observations unaided of with the use of a telescope. Special emphasis is placed on UDHS's Meade LX200 telescopes.
